Sting is a Gorgonian?Beast?who served Malvel in defending the kingdom from the Avantians when the dark wizard lured them into his kingdom. He was originally Seth, a loyal servant of Malvel's who participated in many clashes against?Tom?and?Elenna?under the evil wizard's orders. Seth was never able to defeat the Avantians, even when being supported by Evil Beasts, and after an egregiously failed operation that allowed the Gorgonian rebels to escape, thus ruining years of attempts from the wizard, his master attacked him with six enchanted arrows, leaving him to die. After the arrows were removed, Seth was transformed into the Scorpion Man, dubbed Sting and declared a new Evil Beast. The Beast's body is heavily armoured and resistant to arrows and sword attacks, however his still human head and neck are far weaker, and his various joints remain vulnerable to attacks. As a Beast, Sting is far stronger than when he was Seth, further boosted by his pincers, able to match and exceed Tom in strength. Embedded into his tail is the purple jewel, which creates doorways in rock as well as cutting through it. While classed as a Beast separate from Seth and referred to as formerly being Malvel's human servant, he naturally retains his memories and loyalties, as well as his ability to speak without the red jewel, making him one of the few Beasts to have such an ability. Due to his fate, Sting harbors an intense hatred for Tom, blaming the Avantian for getting him turned into a monster, and wishing he had been left to die instead. This hatred means the Scorpion Man targets Tom exclusively in his battle with the Avantians at his detriment. As Sting is not clearly defeated but instead retreats and his defeat is left as ambiguous on whether or not he was crushed in the fall of the Western City, he may still be alive and active, however no longer serves Malvel, as?Berric?makes clear in series 20, meaning if he survived the fall of the Gorgonian capital, he defected, likely due to Malvel transforming him into a Beast. The Scorpion Man is the first Beast created by magic within the series instead of naturally occurring unless?Nawdren?is considered as such, although she stemmed from a natural Beast.
